Foggy Mountain Barn

Park City’s McPolin Farm – the White Barn – is one of the world’s most photographed buildings. Whether it’s the rushing creek in the springtime, the green fields in the summertime, blazing aspens in the fall or the soft blanket of winter snow, the century old farm is the community’s signature, greeting thousands of visitors every year. Grand Teton Sunset

There’s something mystical about the Tetons. The drive from Jackson Hole up through Moran Junction and on to Yellowstone is breathtaking with jagged alpine peaks forming a knife-edged ridgeline that reaches up to the clouds. Every minute and each successive mile changes the canvas as the sun paints a picture of one of the world’s most notable mountain ranges. The light on this particular day had been crisp and clear – nothing notable. But as we prepared for dinner on the deck at Dornan’s, at the entrance to Grand Teton National Park, the show began. Across a 50-mile stretch, an hour-long light show mesmerized the senses with oranges and pinks ablaze in the sky. It was sun versus mountain for superiority, with the cragged rock of the Grand standing out brilliantly, silhouetted against the summer sky.

Soaring Hawk

There’s a popular hawk flyway south of our home in Silver Creek near Park City, Utah. So it’s not unusual to see one of the majestic birds of prey soaring silently over the ridgeline. Zach and I were Jeeping down by Midway on a cold January afternoon. On our way out of Soldier Hollow we spotted a beautiful red-tailed hawk in a tree. This is where I really wish I had a longer lens for the Nikon D300. But the 80-300 worked fairly well to capture a focus precisely on the hawk as it soared silently above the snow-covered sagebrush.
